Boilerplate

karanow is a macOS app that takes the lead vocal out of whatever the Mac is playing, in real time, so you can sing to it.

karanow turns anything a Mac plays into a backing track. It reads the system audio output rather than any one app, so Apple Music, Spotify, a browser tab and a video player all work the same way. Separation runs on the Mac itself with a low-latency HTDemucs model; the first sound arrives about two seconds after the button is pressed and the backing carries on from there. The notes of the original singer are drawn on screen and your own pitch is drawn over them. Audio is processed in memory and is never written to disk or uploaded. karanow requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14.2 or later.
